If a consumer is in a dispute with a business which they cannot resolve, the Smart Protection service will allow them to escalate their complaint to Consumer Protection & Fair Trade with a single message via WhatsApp. Consumer Protection can then step in to help ensure a fair resolution for both customer and retailer.

The presence of this escalation channel will give consumers peace of mind, and improve their confidence when buying goods and services in Dubai.

How will Smart Protection help businesses?

By registering and displaying their unique Smart Protection assets, retailers will demonstrate their commitment to consumer rights – and so increase consumer trust and confidence.

Smart Protection also provides a single, straight-forward and consistent framework for dispute escalations, simplifying the process for retailers. And by improving communication between customer, retailer and Consumer Protection, the Smart Protection service will speed up complaint resolution.

Question 3

What if the details of our designated contact person change?

Accepted Answer

Changing details, for example if a staff member moves to a different role or leaves the company, is straight-forward.

If this is the first time your details have changed, simply complete your registration again with the new contact details. Your old Smart Protection assets, including the QR code, WhatsApp link, etc, will remain the same – you do not need to replace these.

If you have previously changed details, you will need to contact us to enable re-registration. Once this is done, you can follow the process above.

What if we have a problem with registration?

Accepted Answer

If you receive an error message while trying to register, this can usually be resolved by waiting a few minutes, or until the next day – then trying again.
